Why yes, this is a bust of President Truman’s head carved in a coconut. A favorite among the archivists at the Truman Library, the head was carved by an unknown artist in Puerto Rico.
Former Kansas City, Missouri mayor Bryce Smith acquired it in Puerto Rico during Truman’s presidency. After Mayor Smith’s death, his daughter gave the carving to the Truman Library.
