Christmas has been celebrated in the White House since 1803, when President Thomas Jefferson lived there. The first record of a Christmas tree in the White House is for the year 1889, when President Benjamin Harrison decorated a live tree himself with tinsel and popcorn. Since then a trimmed Christmas tree has become a tradition of the White House.

While there have been 43 President of the United States (counting Grover Cleveland once), The Presidential Libraries currently include the administrations of Herbert Hoover through George W. Bush.  The whos, whats, and whys of it are explained in this previous post.
We love to get requests from the Tumblrverse and today we’ve received  votes for Millard Fillmore and Benjamin Harrison.  As POTUS #13 and #23 respectively, the records of their presidencies fall outside of our holdings. However, though we have said it before, we’ve found some interesting Tumblrs devoted to Presidents under the tag search.
What we can tell you is that there are many a presidential buff among our staff who share your affinity for 19th century POTUS.  Case in point, these Rice Krispies treats for a charity bake sale were recently made by an office mate in homage to President Fillmore.  Mmmmm…Millard.
