President George H. W. and Barbara Bush visited the U.S. Army 197th Infantry Brigade stationed in Saudi Arabia on November 22, 1990 during Operation Desert Shield.
President and Mrs. Bush ate Thanksgiving dinner with the troops.
Later, President Bush shared a stage with Representative Bob Michel, Senator Robert Dole, Senator George Mitchell, and Representative Tom Foley and spoke to the soldiers.
